The 5 post types that actually generate inbound
Most LinkedIn content gets likes. Some gets comments. Very little generates real business: DMs, meeting requests, partnership conversations, inbound leads. The difference is almost always the format.
After managing LinkedIn for 35+ founders and brands, we have seen exactly which post types move the needle on actual business outcomes versus vanity metrics. Here are the five that work.
1. The Contrarian Take
Pick a widely held belief in your industry and argue against it, with evidence. Not for the sake of being controversial, but because you genuinely believe the conventional wisdom is wrong. This is the single highest-performing post type for authority building. It positions you as someone who thinks independently and has the conviction to say so publicly.
2. The Behind-the-Scenes Number
Share a specific metric from your business or work with context. Not "we grew" but "we went from 12 inbound calls a month to 47 in 90 days by changing one thing in our LinkedIn profile." Numbers with context are credibility. They show you are someone who measures, which means you are someone who delivers.
3. The Lesson from a Failure
The most-shared posts on LinkedIn are almost never success stories. They are honest, specific accounts of something that went wrong and what the person learned. Vulnerability, when it is genuine and not performed, generates more trust than any highlight reel.
4. The Decision Framework
Walk your audience through how you make a specific type of decision. How do you evaluate a new hire? How do you decide which clients to take on? How do you think about pricing? Frameworks are shareable because they are useful, and useful content gets passed around.
5. The Direct Recommendation
Recommend a book, a tool, a person, a resource, with genuine specificity about why. "This book changed how I think about X" is weak. "Chapter 7 of this book gave me a framework I use every week in client conversations" is specific enough to be trusted. The person you recommend will often see it. New doors open.
